Graham and Balsam Lake 2/21/10

Trail Conditions: snow, deep in some sections

Special Equipment Required: snowshoes, sunscreen, eye protection

Comments: We started from the Balsam Lake Mtn Trailhead. The blue trail was packed and easy to walk. I couldn't totally remember where the turn was for the herd path so we walked up and down the blue trail for awhile hoping to see tracks. We didn't.

We saw a bit of a clearing in the woods and took a bearing. Neither of us are all that confident with map and compass but we gave it a shot. We broke trail for over 2 hours before reaching the top. Views from the summit were great. Sky was clear and very bright blue. Descending Graham was much easier.

We then headed up the northern side of the red trail to the Fire Tower. We came down the southern side and again had to break trail to the turn for the lean to. Easy out after that.
