Sorry for the late post. At the start we encountered a six foot high snow bank to climb over to get to an unbroken trail head where our common sense got the better of us and we all put on our snow shoes. Four of us alternating front to back, breaking through about a foot to two feet of fresh powder. After about a mile in, a group of four came up behind us and broke through ahead of us up to the hut. THANK-YOU!!! Our original plan was to sumit Lafayette but due to daylight limitations and tough conditions on the sumit we paused and had some chow just outside the hut. "Gadget" was kind enough to carry up a nice thermos of hot soup! Perfect touch considering the temps were hovering around 5 degrees. After about a half hour or so we ventured on down through a nicley broken trail. :) Snow depths were about six inches or so below the blaze height, temps were steady in the mid to low single digits. Only saw four others on Greenleaf trail but ran into four other hikers ("rocket" are you there?) just returning from Lafayette at the hut. I think they were heading down Bridle Path. Thanks to "Gadget", Todd and Greg for another fantastic day out ....
