A great American Moutaineer passed away this past weekend. Pete Schoening was 77 years old and was one of the pioneers of American high altitude mountaineering.

He's reached the final summit!!!

If it's the guy I'am thinking about, wow. A truely amazing guy. Everyone should know his story, of the greatest belay in history.

He is the guy who did the famous 'belay' on K2 and saved 6 lives. The story of the K2 expedition and belay is told in the book K2 The Savage Mountain by Houston and Bates.
