Conditions:
Wore microspikes up until the bushwhack and then changed into snowshoes for the remainder of the hike until the completion of the bushwhack on the way back out. Broke through 4-6 inches of blown in snow along the bushwhack, Isolation trail, and Davis path.
Some groups couldn't find the bushwhack packed path initially (bareboots) so they went and broke out the normal route. I would strongly recommend snowshoes, especially with the warmer temps. Brook crossings were all snow-bridged as of Saturday.
The bushwhack is amazing (big thanks to those who set it) as it follows mostly open woods. We lost the trail a few times in the birch glades, but we always trended uphill and then back downhill until we intersected the original packed path again.
There are 2 spots where we created 2 paths. On the way in, on the bushwhack, take the leftmost (downhill) trail in the birch glade as it stays on the original path (and avoids thicker woods and postholing). Higher up, near the junction of the Davis path the trail will diverge again. Keep right here (the other way is off the trail and has a lot of deep unconsolidated snow).
