June 19, 2011. Temps in the 60s, a good breeze - NO BUGS!
Northern Frontier Section has done a fabulous job on it's whole stretch of the LT. No blowdowns, evidence of recent work, excellent blazes.
Some puncheon just north of Laura Woodward Shelter and another stretch about halfway to Shooting Star could use some complete rebuilding - but in dry weather (such as Sunday) it was easy.
This most rugged stretch of the LT is in excellent shape. We've done it both ways - I would recommend doing this stretch N to S - the most rugged stretches are easier to take going up than down.
Saw one moose just before the Jay Loop to Jay Camp. Two hikers returning from an early morning jaunt up Jay and one hiker who passed us near the top of Jay. Great VFTT!
