Trail Conditions: Old bridle Path well packed out to the hut. Spikes adequate ..some blue ice. We put on Hillsounds or crampons once to treeline and were just as glad to have them in places. Quite interesting around the spring. Some hard ice coming off Franconia Ridge Trail and crampons worked fine. A mix of hardpack and snow along the ridge..some icy spots. Falling Waters Trail well packed out and in great shape for spike tho we did put crampons back on for a short distance around Cloudland Falls

Equipment: sharp spikes or crampons ..pole helped in places..

Comments: late start made this a good choice today. Low visibility and very flat light above the hut. Some tricky spots with ice around Lafayette summit cone. The ridge in and out of the fog. Very low winds and mild temps made this a great hike today and we were greeted with limited views once past Lincoln. Nice to run into Ishmael and Paradox (winter47) today. Great conditions on Falling Waters where butt sliders had packed it out smooth making it perfect for spikes. We saw people barebooting, which boggled our minds, in microspikes, in snowshoes, but mostly in crampons which seemed to me to be the best footware above treeline today. Thanks Valerie for a good day
