It was a very pleasant walk. Lovewell felt rather isolated and had some open views at the top. The trail on the north side descended through the middle of some fern glades, very green from the recent rain. There was also a clearcut where I startled a large hawk. He flew away too fast to be photographed.
I may have interrupted a flying lesson, as a chick of some kind fell almost directly under my foot. I got a couple pictures before pursuing a parent bird with a wounded wing. Very tricky! As I got closer, she seemed to gain strength. Who knew?
Also showing up for the photo shoot was a turtle and the smallest eft (juvenile salamander) I have ever seen.
Continued across the road and wandered around in Pillsbury State Park for a bit.
