Date of Hike:7/1/12
Trail Conditions: great
Special Equipment Required:Bug repellent, head nets
Comments: This hike was mostly off trail on the AT corridor boundary. The reason for the post is predominately to give reference to those hiking in Western Maine. The bugs were noticable all day, mosquitoes, black flies, nosums were all present but DEET kept them from biting. Far more annoying were deer files and the black flies that dont bite but tend to swarm around when stopped for a break. As long as I was moving things were fine but I would have wanted a big net if I was camping.
The water crossing on the AT at South Arm road was rock hoppable, although some of the step stones are marginal.
I only saw one hiker on the trail when I cut back to the trail and headed down via the AT.
The new wind farm north of WhiteCap is new fixture in the area.
