Starting from the parking area the trail was icy most of the way with a light dusting of snow. My friend had a pair of yak-tracks (sp?) and I initially tried without traction control but 10 minutes in it was evident that my crampons were needed. I put them on and didn't take them off. My friend was able to use his yak-tracks without too much of a hassle. Snow got a little heavier the further up we went but never sank more than a few inches.
