Conditions: Gale River Road still open for drive to trailhead. An inch or two of snow at the start getting progressively deeper to about 12 inches near the summit. Snow very light and trail broken so need real for snowshoes. A few stream crossings done without difficulty (poles helpful). A few moderately icy sections doable in bare boots. Temps around 10 F at summit with moderate winds (30-40 mph?).

Special Equipment: Carried snowshoes and crampons but used neither. None of the 11 other people we encountered were wearing any traction either. Full winter gear especially for summit. Saw no hunters and heard no shots but we had the orange vests on anyway.

Notes: Great hike with friends Mike and Charles (White Mountain first timer.)
