Trail Conditions: Lower third of trail was rock solid but with one solo hiker's frozen postholes throughout. Deep ones... for miles. Middle third was still frozen and postholed, but with the addition of a couple inches of powder to hide the less-deep postholes and turn them into tripping hazards. Top third involved forcing our way through and under the pine boughs - spent a lot of time crawling on hands and knees.

Special Equipment Required: Crampons or Stabilicers - required. Snowshoes - optional - Val ended up using them at the end just because the trail was so beat up and she kept twisting her ankles.

Comments: We really had a good hike, despite what I've written above. Just want to adequately warn folks. The ice storm did some incredible damage on the top third or so if this trail. Some large branches down, but much more just hanging heavy with the weight of the ice - especially in the evergreens. The trip from Ashland to Wonalancet via 113/133a was the scariest part of the day. Frost heaves have destroyed the roads.
