Mt. Tecumseh Trail to Northside cut-out 7/12/2009

Trail Conditions: Lower section surprisingly dry and well drained. Upper third to the Northside Chair cut-off had numerous mucky sections that required some careful footwork to avoid chewing up the surface more than necessary. Stream crossings easy with dry stepping stones (finally) showing.

Special Equipment Required: Strong insect repellent. We used Picaridin-based unscented Off, which wore off/sweated off too quickly even on this 90-minute loop, and the black flies were pretty bad on the way down the ski trails.

Comments: Great walk for three families with young-to-tween kids... nice forest walk, just enough brook crossings to keep it interesting, and super views coming down via the ski trails. We skipped the Boneyard (which is both wet and ledgy, and accordingly slick) and opted to come down Lower Tippecanoe -- which was also very marshy in places, but at least not ledgy so the footing was better for a friend rehabbing from ACL surgery.
