Mt. Hunger to Skyline Trail
Attempted hike was Mt. Hunger to Skyline Trail to Hogback and Mt. Worcester then back to Hunger
Date of Hike: 5/11/2008
Trail Conditions: Trail up hunger was great. minimal mud. small amounts of snow. Once on skyline trail snow got DEEP in spots. Never even thought to bring snowshoes.
Special Equipment Required: Snowshoes!!!
Comments: Plan was to get a nice long day in. Hike Hunger (Via Waterbury Trail) to Skyline Trail over hogback and to Mt. Worcester and back. Sometimes plans dont work out. Never thought to bring snowshoes in the middle of may in the green mountains. The two miles along the ridge from Hunger to Ridge trail were very very rough without snowshoes. Deep snow in many shaded parts, 3+ feet in many spots(exhausting!!). Very nice trail, with some great views of mansfield, camels hump and bolton. Decided to head down ridge trail (very poorly marked trail!!! hopefully the spring clean up crew will take care of it) to stowe pinnacle and then down the stowe pinnacle trail, where luckily i knew some people where hiking. got a ride back to my car at Mt Hunger trailhead. Very nice hike, cant wait to do it in a month or so when the snow is melted.
