Dandelions are pretty rugged to get rid of. Horses reportedly were grazed or at least kept in corrals at some point in the summit's history. No doubt they would have contributed to the invasive species issue.

During the Cog presentation to the Coos planning board a few weeks ago, the owner of the Cog made a comment that the lack of topsoil on the summit limited the plants that would grow up there and mused what would grow if they hauled up loads of sterilized topsoil to encourage the plant growth.

In New Zealand at the start of the Milford Track at the landing dock there is long trough full of some sort of disinfectant that all participants on the tour have to walk through prior to heading inland. The intent is to try to kill off invasive organisms that might otherwise be tracked in. Pretty easy with the cog guests but not so easy with the traffic on the autoroad.
