We bushwacked on the way up and did the 3 water crossings on the way back. The second river crossing was a little dicey. Some of the rocks were submerged and others were coated with a thin layer of ice. I put on microspikes to cross, took a long leap, reached the rock, and then fell into the water! Thankfully this was at the end of the hike. After seeing this, Rich, my fellow hiker, crossed the brook without boots.
As we ascended North Twin, the trail became icy and slippery, and we used microspikes the rest of the way to the summit. There were a few places, higher up, where the ice was quite thick. Very helpful to have poles.
Blue skies. Perfect weather. Views from the summit inspiring.
Thanks Rich for hiking with me.
