Date of Hike: 2/11/12
Trails: Dicey’s Mill Trail
Conditions: Hard packed snow from start to finish
Equipment: Microspikes were on my feet from start to finish. I saw a few people barebooting, but they didn’t look like they were having as much fun.
Comments: From reading a NETC report earlier this week I opted to leave the snowshoes behind - excellent choice. The trail is hard packed snow from start to finish with very little exposed ice, even in the final steep section. I met a woman who had come up the Blueberry Ledges in her microspikes, and, though she said that crampons might have made things a little easier, she didn’t have too many problems negotiating the ledges in her ‘spikes.
