Prezi Traverse – Up Valley Way & Down Edmands Path

Date of Hike:8/28/10

Trail Conditions: All trails in tiptop shape. Edmands Path felt particularly soft and gentle on the descent after a day hopping on hard granite.

Special Equipment Required: Sunblock and lots to drink & eat.

Comments: We popped out at Madison Hut around 7AM and were hit with grey skies, cool temps, and high winds. Windbreakers and winter hats needed until a bit after Jefferson, when the skies cleared and temps climbed to the comfortable low 60s. From noontime on we enjoyed mostly bright sun and very long views. Washington was stuck in thick, dark clouds almost all day.

Lots of folks on all trails this day. Appalachia Trailhead was already packed @ 5AM! Both Madison & Lakes Of The Clouds Huts were jumping. We started up Valley Way @ 5:15AM, crossed over summit of Clay on our way to Washington, toasted our buddy Schorman Sr with some blackberry brandy atop Monroe, bagged our last peak of the day – Eisenhower - @ 3:45PM, and finished at Edmands Path Trailhead @ 5:05PM.
