I checked in with ski patrol at their office in the base lodge and got some looks for requesting access at 4pm but thankfully they granted it to me but told me I couldnt snowboard down after dark--fair trade. But since I was in a hurry to catch the sunset I set off wearing my snowboarding boots and using snowshoes up the trail even though it was super firm. Made it up in plenty of time to get some nics pics since its just a 1700 foot climb. I dropped the snowshoes at the summit since there was very little snow above treeline. Ice was a big issue though. I did the out and back with spikes but most would opt for crampons and theres a couple bulges before dropping into the col that might scare some off, i tried to skirt most of the bad ice. Calm wind, cold temps and a nice sunset made for a fun 3h solo night hike. Sooo much easier than heading up the at. Bigger days await!
