Re: Somerset Res

Its a nice day paddle (as is Harriman Res, if you go during the week). Motorboats are prohibited on Somerset. Beautiful setting. The parking lot can fill quickly on summer weekends. Camping is officially prohibited, and I don't believe you can park in the lot overnight (although you can nearby).

The Somerset / Glastenbury area is full of … nothing. The towns were unincorporated, have populations < 10, and I believe there's a ghost town out there.

If you find yourself further north, Chittendon Reservoir (NE of Rutland) is a beautiful paddle.

It reminds me of Splitrock in NJ, not developed, nice place to paddle... Going to have to check it out someday. The p.net report mentions camping nearby (not on the water).

I am also familiar with Harriman Res as I drove by that on the way to Molly Stark last year... another nice paddle but not as secluded...
