Getting to the trailhead is aggravating, as Success Pond Rd. was dragged recently and there are many small rocks most of the way..also protruding rocks which could damage low clearance vehicles...but one can drive to the trailhead off of Success Pond Rd. as it is clearly marked with a "green/white" street sign, and at the fork bear right, that old AMC sign is now visible..trail is in relatively good shape for one which is not adopted...after the first Loop jct., snow and ice started and it probably gets worse the higher it goes...Loop trail good with minor trimming done..
This was a trail maintenance trip with drainages cleaned and some trimming done...ran into Lucky Pierre, an AT section hiker headed up and then back south to the Dream Lake area..gave him info from NeoA's excellent report...black flies are starting to come out, some ear and eye dive bombers today!!
If anyone is interested in adopting this trail, contact AMC..it can be a quick way to get up to the AT...once past the Overlook jct one can make great time..it's the only trail in Northern Mahoosuc section not adopted....thanks Lefty E
