I know this is a forum for the NE US...but has anyone ever hiked thru Victoria Island BC. Looking to do a week this summer of hiking/biking/kayaking...partying. Any advice or guide book suggestions would be great.

We used to live in Seattle, and Vancouver Island was one of our favorite destinations. Strathcona Provincial Park has some good hiking. There's another provincial park, the name of which escapes me, north of Nanaimo on the eastern shore that has good camping and a great rustic beach for swimming. (The water is actually pretty pleasant by mid-summer, as it's heated by the sun and not stirred up as much as on the western shore.) The western shore near Tofino has a long, shoreline trail that is reputed for its ruggedness. We found the provincial parks to be great places generally. There are cougars on the island, so "watch your back" in the lonely places.
