Trails: Starr King Trail
Trail Conditions: This trail is in fine shape. It is relatively dry and has no blow downs or brushing issues. The spring near the ridge is flowing fast. Nice soft treadway with a moderate grade.
Special Equipment: Not much today.
Comments: For some reason, even though I've been on Starr King since it was "viewscaped," the difference in the old and new views really struck me on this hike. It used to be if I stood on my toes or was on a few feet of snow, I could get a good look at Madison. Now, it's not hard to label every Presidential. That is a stunning look at the entire range. I always have liked the mile between Starr King and Waumbek, kind of a wild, beautiful, sometimes eerie stretch. Now it is lined with ferns. A nice 7 mile or so round trip.
