    Best Photos

My favorite photo Just love the way this one came out...a completely candid moment just as I summited Haystack for #46. I love the silouette and the rays of light. I did have to edit out a giant pink/orange sunspot though (part of which you can see in my avatar)...

Water purification, Hygene and the Imune system

I am late joining this thread, but let me chime in as I am firmly in the "let them eat a peck of dirt" camp or whatever the old saying is. My wife carries around a bottle of lysol in a holster, hoses our entire hotel room down when we travel, arries that germ killing hand cleaner everywhere...

    Haystack #46 10/21/2005

Thanks for the kind words everyone! Adam - sorry we never got together but my schedule was almost always last minute. The only advantage to this is that I always had spectacular weather, well maybe except for Cliff, but then again Cliff is a mountain that begs to be climbed in less than...

    Haystack #46 10/21/2005

Wow, thanks for the kind words everyone, this is really great. Doc...I dragged my daughter as far as Marcy Dam once this summer, hopefully will have better luck next year. Ironically, she was furious with me and wouldn't speak to me the night I left for Haystack because she "wanted to be with...

Seward Range and a Pleasant Surprise

Nice report, Perc. I had ideal conditions for Sewards during that first week in October. I may have also seen the same 3 locals you describe. Ahh, those Deliverance moments. Looking forward to your pics. What about Seymour? :) ADK Rick PS I believe I drive through your town every day on...

I know that it has taken some people longer, but 32 years is...

    Haystack #46 Friday 10/26

Haystack #46 Friday 10/21 Looks like all systems are go for #46 tomorrow on Haystack. Planning to leave the Garden at 6:00 am or so under headlamp (curse these short days!). Stabilicers and cold weather gear as well. But right now it looks like a stellar day is shaping up. Anyone interested...

Sewards #42-45 October 4&5 Just Like Summer!

I think it was a combination of the only info I had in my hand (a 2004 printout from adirondackjourney.com) and me mis-remembering some stuff. The old printout has only a few lines about Calkins Brook but it says "crosses and re-crosses". Now that I go to the site, I see that this description...

Sewards #42-45 October 4&5 Just Like Summer!

(continued from 1st post)... There is a lookout north just before the Donaldson summit that has similar views to Seward and Seymour. I arrived at the Donaldson summit at 11:05. The true summit boulder faces east and has by far the best views of the whole range. I was looking into the sun so...

Sewards #42-45 October 4&5 Just Like Summer!

Subtitle: Maybe October, but it felt like "Hot Time, Summer in the Sewards" Another Subtitle: The trip that almost wasn't See the pictures -HERE- Wow, I really had to shoehorn this trip in. But the weather forecast won me over and 5 am tuesday I was driving from CT to my company's Albany...

A place to stay in the Big Slide area

On numerous trips this year to the HP area, I have followed much of the above advice. I can offer that the Hostel in KV is great, and cheap for a single person. I have stayed there 3 times. Once when I met two others we stayed at the Northwoods Inn in LP....it was still early in the season...

    Thoughts on the Sewards

Looks like I'm going for it. Should be quite an aggressive trip what with the short days and all. Leave coreys around noon tomorrow (tues) and back to the car by nightfall weds. Seymour tues and the rest weds, exit via Calkins Brook...going in extra light...just the usual plus a sleeping bag...

Daypack Recommandations... - moved from Q&A

FWIW, I love my Kelty Redwing. Comes in 3 torso sizes, I have the middle one and I think it will suffice for this weeks upcoming overnighter in the Sewards. It is hydration bladder compatible and has been flawless over 5 tough hikes this year. ADK Rick
