Spring snow storm - what happens to the bugs?

Does this late snow storm kill off all the bugs and they restart at 0 meaning less bugs this year, or does it mean we get a "second spring" and twice as many bugs? Anybody in the know on this?

Is Yard Mtn a 4000 footer?

Thank you very much for all the great and sometimes humourous responses. I appreciate the time that was spent figuring it our by some of you and I am glad that in the future any google search will lead here for anyone else looking for this info. I'll climb anything that's on an official list or...

Is Yard Mtn a 4000 footer?

I cant figure out if this mountain is 4009 feet or 3990 feet. Which is the most recent measure? At 4009' the prominence from Big Slide works out to at least 203 feet. I know it's not on any traditional "list" but I would like to know its status anyway. Thanks.

    ADK.org web site hacked

The ADK.ORG website appears to have been hacked and contains the JSRedir-R worm. Google detects the problem if you try to get to the site via the search engine and my antivirus also detects it if I try to go there directly. I wanted to send them an email about this but dont have an email address...

Where's all the Trail Condition Reviews?

Now is the time we really need condition reports. In summer the conditions are best guessed from weather.com reports! A bunch of people hiked dix over the last few days. No reports. Went in yesterday expecting easy going and found deep snow. Ended up not making the summit. We only took one pair...

There seems to be quite a few structures along the shores... I wonder if they will ever take these down.

    Redfield Bushwhack

We did Redfield to Skylight via Moss Pond in 2004. It took 4.5 hours and was mostly a tangled mess all the way with a brief respite at the pond. In my opinion the easiest travelling between the two summits would be Redfield -> Lake Tear. My second choice would be Skylight summit -> Redfield...

    Avalanche Mountain 12/30/07

Deep snow and spruce traps galore! We went from Avalanche Pass (50 yards north of the highest point) to the summit pretty much in a straight line. We were very lucky (I assume) as we found many consecutive open areas so there was very little bushwacking involved. Very few downed trees either...

    Avalanche Trap Dyke

Maybe the lake will one day 'fill in'! In front of the dyke you can already walk accross the unfrozen lake without getting your head wet (If you're six feet tall anyway).

    Avalanche Trap Dyke

I forgot to mention, the snow debris field was measured to be 14 feet deep.

    Avalanche Trap Dyke

Spoke with a ranger. It occured on Wednesday morning, 3/14. No one was near it. Good thing I didn't go up there on Saturday before... could have triggered it! We voted 4 Gos to 1 No Go on friday night, it had to be unanimous. We owe the No Go several beers!
