    Found Objects

Found : Nalgene between near whiteface. A headlamp on Moosilauke. A filthy disgusting sock with nearly $300 stuffed inside on Crawford path. I posted signs asking if anyone lost a sock at several trail heads, no replies. Lost : Brand spankin' new red nalgene on welch dickey last winter....bummer.

    Ladders on Maine's Sugarloaf/Spauling/Abraham?

Did these three with one car on caribou rd (went out and came back same way) in a day last August. Good times. Going 'back up' Spaulding after hitting Abraham was a seemingly long haul though.

    North Twin

    Gear-less spring hiking recommendation?

Carter dome from nineteen mile is a nice one. Did it with my usual crew last winter when our plan to cross over the Wildcats was thown out due to ice. The only real steep part from the hut up the first section to the summit is in the sun all day so if the temp is above freezing it wont be icy...

    North Twin

Has anyone ever done this and skipped (any or all) the brook crossings (N. Twin trail). This is one of the few peaks my lil sis and her b-friend have left, would like to get it done sometime soon, but I remember the crossings being a pain in the summer so I can imagine them being painful this...

Here comes the big spring snowstorm for the Whites!

Ahh, good ol' WMUR, still trying to pimp the ski areas..... My sister lives in Groton (NH... NW of Plymouth) and awoke this morning to 2 in of snow, she's at about 1200' elevation, so my bet is with mountains getting dumped on. No biggie, I have my winter gear in pack (save for crampons and...

    Scar ridge

From reading past posts I gather that an attempt little east pond is an overall miserable experience but has anyone ever gone at it from loon. The other half of my hiking team(boyfrind) is voting towards a Loon mtn start, but I feel starting from kanc's big rock is better. Also has anyone been...

    2006 backcountry goals

Finish 100 highest peaks in VT (most have trails ! should be easy) and in NH (only 3 left now). Get on my sister and her boyfriend (& dog) to finish NH 48, they only have nine left. Do more backcountry camping...only went 4 times last year. Hit up the pemi loop in one day, and maybe the...

    Camping atop Mount Kearsarge

LOL, I’ve been planning to head up there for a quick night hike later on today as a matter of fact! (Tobogganing down the road on the Winslow side at night is way too tempting.)

    Favorite campsites in the Northeast

So far...Willard Notch on the kilkenny ridge trail. Quiet and remote, a nice reward after a good hike (especially if you start from the north end of the trail).

    Reddington/ Sugarloaf-Spaulding -Abraham

Clayton and I hiked Redington, Sugarloaf, Spaulding, Abram, Saddleback and Horn last weekend.....It is so beautiful up there. Redington is extremely easy to get to if you park about a mile past the AT crossing on CVR and follow the old skidder roads out to the peak. We got it bagged in just...

Maine Forest Rally - Success Pond Road

Shoot! I wish I had read this post before we drove to Berlin this Saturday. Although it seems like we got there early enough that we could have drove up the road (10 am). It was a weird situation how we found out, we were informed that the road was closed by a father and son who were...

    Speaking of licence plates

I was on my way to class last week on 93 south just before Exit 15E when I passed a Honda insight with the Vanity plates 76NE4k, as I passed him I gave him a thumbs up. It crossed my mind later that he probably had no idea what I was thumb upping him about and possibly could have though I was...

Sneakers on the trail - crazy or am I old-fashioned?

I'm a leather boot kind of girl. I like the study feeling and my ankles do appreciate it, plus they are way sexier than sneakers and they give a cool hiker tan line. :p

    Cabot (#46) & Waumbec (#47)

Defiantly was great hiking this weekend. It was nice meeting you and Matthew out there, I think it's great that you get him out onto the trails, I wish I had someone do that for me at that age. Congrats on 46 & 47, you’re almost there now! Happy hiking! -Heather
