Trails: Livermore, Mt Tripryamid, going to North Tripyramid first

Conditions: Livermore's road section, and the broadleaf forest sections of the Tripyramid trail in great shape, as is the section of trail on the Tripyramid crest. Some older blowdowns, easily hopped over, on the section of the Tripyramid after of the junction with the Livermore trail and before the North Slide. One large blowdown on the Tripyramid crest just south of the junction with the Sabbaday Brook Trail; a short improvised route takes you around it.

The Slides were fortunately dry -- but even in the best conditions these are nasty and steep (especially the North Slide) sections of trail. Caution, common sense and a lot of effort will get you past them.

Special equipment: Poles very helpful on the slides, but while climbing up the North Slide there are times when poles must be carried because both hands are needed for gripping the rock and pulling oneself up. Good boots a must. Yesterday's cooler weather and breezes kept the bugs away, so no bug dope was used.

Saw just three other fellows on the Tripyramid loop. On the road section of the Livermore trail we encountered a few expected mountain bikers. At the trailhead a group of mushroom hunters were having fun examining a basket of found fungal treasures.

We needed 6.5 hours to complete the 11-mile loop yesterday (though my young nephew Tom could've done it in 6 hours if he hadn't had to wait a few times for his old uncle to catch up).
