If you're staying at Katahdin Stream campground and you get a rainy day (or two), the AT to Daicey Pond and the Grassy Pond trail make a great loop. It looks like the park has extended the Grassy Pond trail to the Tote road, just across from the main Kahandin Stream campground entrance. There isn't any signs at the Tote road the but trail is easy to find, well blazed, and well trodden.
My AMC Maine Mountain Guide 9'th edition map shows only a spur on the south side of Grassy Pond part way out towards the Tote road. This spur now continues all the way to Katahdin stream CG.
The section of the AT that goes from the Tote road to Daicy Pond is absolutely fantastic (although flat). I would imagine this is great moose territory. We didn't see much other than mosquitoes.
