New federal "Wild Lands" designation

On the plus side, it sounds like this will make it easier for the BLM to designate an manage it's own wilderness ("wild lands" in this case) without the need for congressional legislation (which is needed for federally designated "wilderness areas").

On the other hand, these areas won't be as well protected, and can be reverted from being managed as wilderness, and opened to high-impact uses much more easily.
