Loon and I and my new replaced knee.
Trails: Blueberry Ledge to Rollins to Dicey's Mill
Peaks: Whiteface leaving 5 left on the winter 4000kers. Zero wind on this epically Bluebird day!
Snow conditions: Primary: frozenand loose granular. (Great footing with Kahootlas)
to 3000 feet then very consolidated powder with some ice on trails.
As we walked we thought we heard the snow saying "ouch!" .....it's been walked on for so long!
The upper 6 (?) ledges were snow covered with steps kicked in.
Thin cover low to 18 inches high.
No blow downs that were difficult
The first ledge was, we determined, too icey to descend but doable on the up side
So .....we enjoyed the ridge hike on The Rollins Trail (many ups and downs maybe 400-500 feet worth in sum).
Equiptment: Kahootla Microspikes all the way. First day on them for us both....What a great piece of gear. So light your effort is minimized.
Kind on the knees too.
Did not carry Denalis/crampons or even gaitors thanks to other climber's trip reports.
One of our top 5 days in the Mts. on this challenging and testy barely 4ker!
Thanks Loon..without you there would have been no summit !
