Packed powder, 1-2 feet deep, all the way. A good treadway, very clean, consolidated trail. You need to hop over a few stream crossings, but the major crossings are fine. Sawyer River road is well packed from snowmobiles.
I barebooted to the ridge, then put on snowshoes. I kept snowshoes on for the traction on the descent. No icy patches at all. I would say, snowshoes optional but helpful.
A fantastic day to hike--temps in low 20s, sunny, amazing views from the ridge and the tower. This continues to be a great time to winter hike Carrigain.
