    Winter comes to Mt. Washington

Saturday Hike to North and South Twin Real snow on a mushroom on North Twin Trail Saturday. Lots of rime ice melting off the trees as well.

    Stabilicers vs Yaktrax

Thanks, Kevin. The stabilicers do look more substantial and certainly wouldn't fall off. I was just looking at pics on-line at EMS and REI and recalling what folks we passed on the trail had worn last weekend on our hike up Mt Willard.

    Winter Booties for Dogs?

Are winter booties for dogs any good? We took our retriever puppy up Mt Willard last weekend and he did fine, but did get a lot of snow in his pads. Do any of you use the booties or are they unnecessary? I imagine it might take a while to get a pup used to them.

    Stabilicers vs Yaktrax

We have snowshoes but they seem to be overkill when the trail is packed out. We only do light winter hiking (Mt Willard, Greeley Ponds) and were thinking of getting stabilicers or yaktrax. Is one better than the other? The stabilicers look like they would be better on icy patches, but the...

    British Tips

May I was born and raised in Britain. My family would go hiking in the Lake District. While the mountains are not as high as the Whites, they are still challenging, especially as the hiking is mostly above tree-line. The reputation for being a rainy country is well deserved so get good rain...

New Moose Warning for I-93 Franconia

In 20+ years of visiting the White, we have seen very few moose. But we did see this one today, just south of Crawford Notch on Rt 302. He drew quite a crowd.

Asking recommendation for 45% slope trail (more details inside)

To answer the original question, I would think parts of Nineteen Mile Brook Trail might be sleddable. There is a bit of a drop off on one side in a couple of spots to be careful of. But the trail is well graded, certainly on the lower part.

    Lost and found boards

I certainly didn't mean to get anyone upset with my question. However, I just read the site rules and it doesn't mention not posting "lost and found" questions. By unlocking the previous thread does that mean you are relaxing the "unwritten" rules or is it a one-time reprieve?

    Lost and found boards

Peakbagr states there are other boards more suitable for "lost and found" questions. What boards would those be? And why shouldn't this board have a "lost and found" section? What is the "original purpose" of the VFTT board and why isn't this a useful function? I read the AMC boards...
