    Subaru Owners?

I'm on my second Legacy. It's great in the snow and the newer models actually have some style to them! The 1995 had 135,000 miles and was still running great when I sold it. My 2005 also runs great & gets 30mpg highway. I drive 60mi to work each way now, so I bought snow tires this year. It...

Mt. Washburn, Yellowstone NP - Aug. 16, 2009

Mt. Washburn We hiked Mt. Washburn on August 10. Looks like our weather was a little bit better! Yellowstone was incredible - especially the wildlife and geothermal activity. We visited Glacier, Yellowstone & Grand Teton NPs. One of my best vacations. Laurie

    saddle and basin, Feb. 7th

There was at least 12" of new snow and some big snow drifts up high on Giant on Saturday. At least 8 of us went over to RPR; Giant received lots of traffic, so all trails are broken out now. RPR trails were getting a bit windblown, so there could be a little bit of breaking trail. Have fun on...

    Basin and Saddleback: winter

CCB in winter You guys will have fun doing CCB in winter. Lots of snow is good, but you better hope it's consolidated. We attempted CCB after the big snows in February. We had a strong group, but only made it to the base of the slide by 3:00. We were trying to break trail thru 4 or 5 feet of...

Rescue Copter today in Great Range Area

Rescue on Giant They were waiting for a woman who broke her leg near the top of Giant. It was so windy up there I'm impressed they were able to get her off the mountain with a copter. The woman was in good spirits and I hope she has a speedy recovery. Kudos to the DEC rangers. These guys & gals...

    Avalanche in Cascade Pass Today?

Rt. 73 I was told by a DOT employee that part of Route 73 was closed on Wednesday due to big snow drifts (wouldn't be surprised if it was Cascades pass as it is always windy there). But looking at the DOT site this evening, the road appears to be open now. Hopefully there were no avalanches on...

More suggestions for SD My nieces live in the San Diego area (they are 7 & 11). Some of their favorite places to go: - Wild Animal Park - they like this better than the zoo. The park also has "Park After Dark" activities that can be quite fun for the kids. - Legoland in Carlsbad. Only about...

    Seward trailhead parking this weekend

Coreys Road parking There is definitely a gate just past the bridge - at least it was there last December. (Trust me - When hiking the Sewards in the winter you will begin hallucinating that the gate is just around the next corner  ) As of Nov. 4 the road was still open. Here's the web...
