Peekamoose, Table, Table LT - 1/17

Trail is in great condition although that may change with the sleet/rain/etc we are getting today. Snow levels varied from a few inches to 1.5-2' of snow up high. No ice at all.

Water Bladder issues in the Winter

Here's what works for me (I don't think I've used this though in anything colder then single digits). I heat up the water beforehand and have the tubing (with no neoprene or other winter type insulation) running over my shoulder and into the front of my shirt (I wear a 1/2 zip baselayer) using...

    Wittenberg 1-08-11

Hoping that enough snow had fallen from the storm on Friday we headed up to do Wittenberg. We found that there was barely enough snow to snowshoe on with snow levels varying between 1' or so to 3-4". The upper section of the trail is more treacherous then I've ever seen it with very light...

    Peekamoose 12-21

Headed up Peekamoose after work for a full moon hike. No snow down low with full snow coverage showing up around recon rock (roughly 2800'). I used my stabilicers up high but they weren't necessary since there was very little ice. I'd guess it hasn't gotten above freezing in quite a while...

Hunter Mtn via Becker Hollow 11/15/10

Went for a quick hike up Hunter via the Becker Hollow TH Monday afternoon after work. It was bone dry down low on the trail. At about 3000' when it starts getting steep I started encountering snow and had to stop and put on my stabilicers. On top there is up to 4" or so of wet, dense snow. I...

Petzl Reverso 3 vs. Black Diamond ATC Guide

I've had the ATC Guide since it first came out and have been very happy with it. I know this isn't scientific or anything but I do notice more people (and every guide I've ever seen) using it here at my home crag, the Gunks, then the reverso.

    Devils Path

Oops you're right. I was a bit tired when I posted it and I kept staring at the east to west/west to east knowing that it didn't seem quite right.

    Devils Path

I hiked the Devil's Path last weekend in 10:15 and was happy since I was only a few minutes off my previous best time from 5 years ago. I wanted to change it up and did it from west to east (starting at Spruceton Rd). Having now done it in both directions I'd recommend doing it the traditional...

Amazing Sight - A Planet Earth Moment

Even now almost three days later I'm still amazed at what I am about to write... On Saturday I was out doing a training hike (after a 5 year break I'm once again going to do the Devil's Path in a day) and had decided to do the Burrough's Range Loop. I started in Woodland Valley and decided at...

    Vancouver BC Area Hiking recomendations

I will also be in the BC area this summer and found a great website a few months ago with hikes in the area. Check it out...http://www.vancouvertrails.com/trails/the-lions-binkert-trail/ There are quite a few good hikes in and around Vancouver depending on how much driving you're willing to do.

    Escarpment Trail - 4/7

Was looking to hopefully do some snow free hiking but was unfortunately proven very wrong on that account. Parked at Peck Rd trailhead and hiked over Windham, Burnt Knob and to Acra Point and back. There is still alot of snow out there (1-2.5') and I wished on many occasions that I had brought...

    Peekamoose (4/3)

Went for a quick hike up Peekamoose on Sat. The snow level is now at around 3100-3200' (just a bit past recon rock). Once encountered, the snow was a consistent depth of 1-2' of hard packed snow. Even with the warm weather I was able to bareboot to the summit with very minimal postholing...

    Tremper Mtn 3/31

Went for a quick hike up Tremper after work. Much of the trail has running water on it and there are 2 large snowfields up near the summit where I was happy to have had my stabilicers. Otherwise a nice hike on a pretty unrelenting trail with alot of clouds and periodic sun. I'd imagine the...

    Devil's Notch & Hunter Loop (3/27)

Started at Devil's Notch TH and hiked/snowshoed over to Spruceton Road, over Hunter and back. Long day in perfect conditions and weather. No snow down low but snow quickly starts at around 2500-2800'. Wore stabilicers for half of hike and snowshoes for rest. 1' of snow at 2500' and up to 4'...

    Plateau via Devil's Path 3/16

Headed up Plateau via the Devil's Path for a quick but lung burning snowshoe on a very beautiful day. Trail is hard packed and compared to doing Hunter the previous week there were very few post holing incidents (with snowshoes on of course). There are some previous post holes at the very...

    Hunter - 3/11

Snowshoed up Hunter via Devil's Path on a very warm afternoon. Even with snowshoes I was constantly sinking in up to my knees and in some spots even further. If you can, start early before the snow softens up or else you'll get to swim through snow with the consistency of concrete as I did.

    Hunter 12/12/09

Broke trail up Hunter via Becker Hollow TH Sat morning. 6-10" of snow down low building to 1-2' mid way with 2-3' up top. Snowshoes a must! Great weather and an exhausting but fun hike.

    waterworks in rosendale?

That land is not open for climbing yet. As far as I know it is an ongoing process and could take years for it to be sold, transferred, opened for bouldering...

    A Death on Mount Shasta

Another article I read from the west coast mentioned that none of them were wearing helmets. I don't know what area the accident happened in but I was surprised by that fact.

    Snowshoe Dayhike in VT Suggestions

I'm staying in Ludlow VT next weekend (Martin Luther King weekend) and am looking for a good one day snowshoe trip (6-10mi) that I can do with my dad. I'd like it to be challenging (decent vertical) and have good views and not need anything over stabilicers in regard to traction devices (I have...
