    Kahtoola-MICROspikes vs STABILicers

Agreed Marty. I did specifically mention a "winter pack boot" versus a typical 3-season hiker however. I suspect you could get both sizes to work on a 10.5 pack boot, but now I'm a little concerned as to whether a large would be too loose and not stay on as well. As you pointed out, I think...

    Kahtoola-MICROspikes vs STABILicers

For what it's worth, I contacted Kahtoola support directly in regards to sizing. Based on wearing a 10.5 winter pack boot myself, they recommended a large. - Bill

    Kahtoola-MICROspikes vs STABILicers

I ordered a pair from Zappos Monday night for my wife and I surprisingly received them on Tuesday. I was expecting Wednesday as the order was placed later in the evening. She'll be testing them out on Jackson this weekend. If all goes well, I'm going to order a pair for myself. They look...

    Emergency pants for winter dayhikes

Hi Marty, I currently bring 200-weight fleece pants in case of an emergency, but I've been planning to pickup some insulated pants that have a full length zipper for convenience. I've been eyeballing the Patagonia Micro Puff pants as they have the full length zipper and they only weigh 14...

    VFTT Community Lens

I agree totally. I like the idea of using a prime lens. Working under the constraints of a fixed focal length forces me to be a little more creative and put a little more thought into my composition. - Bill

    Some pics for C&C

Thanks Doug. I just went back through all my portrait shots and almost all of them were taking with a shutter speed between 1/25-1/60. The sharpest portraits were done with 1/320 shutter speed and F/4.5 f-stop. Based on the reciprocal rule for shutter speed with my lens, (50mm * 1.6 = 1/80)...

Good feedback Tim. Thanks. What do you think about this shot? I think this one tends to put more emphasis on the train and less on Mt. Washington. Train

    Some pics for C&C

I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend. Finally, some great weather! Some pics below for C&C. As always, your feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks! For full high-resolution shots, please goto the album. Lesson learned this weekend: With my 50mm 1.4 lens, (maybe all lenses) portraits...

Scenery shot with a human in the foreground

There are plenty of free / inexpensive photo editing programs out there. I'm currently using Adobe Lightroom for my entire workflow. You can download a 30-day evaluation copy from Adobe if you want to play around with it. Lightroom 30-day Evaluation You just need to create a quick account...

Scenery shot with a human in the foreground

Yet another perspective.....I left in more dark clouds as Nartreb had suggested, but cropped more from the right of the image. Another perspective

Scenery shot with a human in the foreground

For me personally, the excessive amount of clouds in the image had nothing interesting to offer. Leaving them in just to satisfy a rule of thirds isn't something that I've been practicing. This is all personal preference however. If they had been white puffy clouds against a bright blue sky...

Scenery shot with a human in the foreground

Hi Bobby, I'm only a newbie myself but I think it looks pretty decent. I hope you don't mind but I went ahead and made some cropping and other post-processing adjustments to my liking. For me personally, the abundancy of clouds in the image was detracting my attention from the boy. I also...

    Some C&C Please

I've taken some of your recommendations and made one last attempt at post-processing. The primary focus was to increase contrast, add cropping adjustments, and increase color saturation for specific color channels. It's now time for a couple of cold ones. Thanks again everyone for all your...

    Some C&C Please

Wow. Good work Kevin. Sounds a little too advanced for me though. :-) Although I have PS CS3, I'm currently using LR for my entire workflow. Now you've got me itching to dive back into LR and take another stab at some of these images. :-) - Bill
