Snowmobile routes--Jericho Road and Rocky Branch Tr?

Thank guys. I called the Saco Ranger Station and they confirmed that the southern 2/3 of the Rocky Branch Tr is closed. Not sure what the consequences would be for going up there anyway, but I'll be leading a group and I want to minimize surprises. Pat

Snowmobile routes--Jericho Road and Rocky Branch Tr?

Thanks for the info, guys. Chip, what was the condition of the trail? A pdf linked to in the page DougPaul pointed out makes it look like you were breaking the law by being up there. Any advice on whether it's actually passable safely? BTW, DougPaul, I grew up in Bedford.

Snowmobile routes--Jericho Road and Rocky Branch Tr?

Hi everyone-- I have a quick question. I'm thinking of XC skiing up Jericho Rd off 302 below Crawford Notch, and on up the Rocky Branch trail. Does anyone know whether snowmobiles frequent this road/trail? Thank you in advance for any advice! Pat

What kind of critter is this?

Is that a poo joke?!! Awwww... Edit: I can't take credit for that photo, by the way--that would go to my friend Josef--but most of the other photos in the trip report linked to above are mine.

What kind of critter is this?

Thanks for the information, guys. I think it's funny that the very tips of their tails never turn white--I wonder what the purpose of that adaptation is. Patrick

    ADK Rescue

Much gratitude to those willing to help their fellow hikers. Anyone have any details of the accident? Were they on trail or off on a slide path? If anyone has some more information it could lend some insight to everyone else. Patrick

What kind of critter is this?

Hi everyone, I was hiking up in the Siamese Ponds Wilderness (Central Adirondacks) this past weekend and saw very little in the way of wildlife, except for some deer and hare tracks. The only living creature of note was this little guy: He looked a lot like a common pet ferret but was...

Photo TR Extravaganza: Franc. Ridge, Monroe, Eisenhower, Tripyramids, Greylock, more!

Hi Chip, I'm glad you like my photos, thanks for the compliments. Almost all of the photos on my site were shot with a Canon A80 I got at the beginning of last summer, and I often use a wide angle adapter which fits over the lens on a bayonet- or barrel-style mount. I have been tremendously...

Photo TR Extravaganza: Franc. Ridge, Monroe, Eisenhower, Tripyramids, Greylock, more!

Hey everyone, I just regained access to my high-speed internet connection, so I've posted my photo trip reports from my activities of the last month and a half: Mt. Greylock November 12th. http://www.vu.union.edu/~allenp2/web2.html Lincoln to Lafayette Traverse: 11/26 Monroe: 12/11...

Trap Dike TR & shameless peakbagging

Thanks for the advice, TCD. Next time I do the 1990 slide I will have a much better feeling for the layout (anyone want to ski it this winter?). Tom and I wanted to go down the climber's right part of the slide, we felt this would be the most straightforward descent route, but once we staretd...

Trap Dike TR & shameless peakbagging

Hey everyone, I have a couple trip reports up from the second half of this summer which may interest you. First is my photo page from my climb of the uber-classic Trap Dike on Colden, in the Adirondacks, including (bonus) our descent of the southeast slide. Second is my photo...

    Baldfaces (Classic Loop) - 7/31

Very nice TR, thanks for sharing it. Keep up the black and white photography, it is often a very effective method of portraying mountain scenes, especially in the high-contrast environment of midday above treeline. Quite a few years ago, South Baldface was actually my first overnight hike...

    Great Range Solo Traverse

Thanks King Tut, I'm really proud of how those videos came out. I'd love to get my hands on a higher quality video camera in a few years and actually make better quality movies. I'll be sure to post future TR's here, thanks all. Patrick

    Great Range Solo Traverse

Hey Grasshopper, I was indeed the guy you talked to at the trailhead at 5 am. I was figuring I would probably bump into you over the course of the day and was kind of surprised I didn't. I thought I was going at a pretty decently solid pace (pretty much the exact pace I had planned on...

    Great Range Solo Traverse

Hello children, A few weeks ago (the fourth of July weekend, actually) I headed up to the High Peaks of the Adirondacks for a little piece of solo masochism known as the Great Range Traverse. Did it from the Roostercomb Trailhead, along the range trail to Marcy, (including Roostercomb and...

    Big Group Dayhike

Hey guys, I need a little advice from some of you who frequent the Southern Adirondacks, I'm taking a fairly large group of people (around 15, as it turns out--this trip got more popular than I expected) on a beginner snowshoeing trip on Saturday, and I was wondering if anyone has any...
