fires in the eastern high peaks? the Dixes?

We are thinking about going in to do some of the Dix range, and possibly camping at Slide Brook leanto. Does anyone know if we can have fires there? I know that fires in the eastern high peaks are restricted, but I wasn't sure if this falls in the restricted area. Thanks for any help, Mark

Ice Climber Injury on Cathedral Ledge

This is a friend of mine and he remains in critical condition in Portland. I have not been in contact directly with his friends and family at the hospital and would prefer not to burden them with one more phone call. I have sent a message to let them know I am praying for Scott. I was...

Kelly and I have the 18th through the 25th of July to go explore Maine and New Hampshire and are looking for any recommendations on your favorite campgrounds, and hikes too. Last summer, we hiked up in Baxter State Park a little and then shot down to the coast for a few days. Most of our...

    Best Treking poles??

leki Leki is the way to go. After breaking a section of my Leki poles on a trip down Allen (ADKs) in the winter I called them up to get a replacement section. They said they'd ship it right out. When I asked how much, they said it would cost me nothing, a warranty item. The section came a...

    W46 on Cascade

What a weekend to be out hiking, not to mention finish our W46! We followed Pvon's lead from earlier this winter as he finished his W46 on Cascade, and we did the same on Saturday. The weather was about as perfect as it has been this winter season for hiking. Combine that with a shorter hike...

Mt Allen Ascent on April 2-4

allen in the spring Kelly and I did this hike last year around the same time and the river had ice jammed and flooded the trail. We walked through a foot to two feet of water in some places to get through. No matter how good your gaiters and gore-tex layers are, the water soaks through...

Elk Lake Hi Guinness, It looks like Kelly and I might be headed in from the Elk Lake side of things early on Saturday. We haven't finalized our plans yet, but that's what it's looking like. We're also not sure whether we'd go up Macomb or return via Macomb yet. Hopefully, we'll see you on...

    Allen Mountain 02/06

skis worked well You're right, skiing is a time saver, not to mention it breaks up the trip. We just did this trip last Saturday with new snow and it was great. We skied in until we hit the turn off of the officially marked trail. The trail winds on and off of old logging Roads and makes for...

    learning experience

pt Kelly had some similar pains in her knee after we did Blake and Colvin. My father, who is a physical therapist, gave her some excercises to help her get better. She hasn't had any problems since she's done the excercises. You might want to go to see a physical therapist. Hope it feels...

corey's road now closed Thanks for the advice and the pictures. The conditions were just as described; glare ice under a few inches of new snow. We were prepared with tire chains and had no problems at all. We drove nice and steady to the summer trailhead. On our way out we saw the tracks...

    the sewards 1/8 - Corey's Rd? Snow?

corey's road is open I spoke to a ranger today who said that the gate is still open and the road is passable. She said that they got a couple of inches of snow up there. We will probably go up and give it a shot. We'll bring some good gear for the road, a Jeep, 4WD, chains for the tires, a...
