"Air lines" on the Airline?

Ok...so, at the very beginning of the Airline, we noticed these lines...after much discussion...and not being able to figure out the purpose of these...we figured (jokingly of course) that they were "air lines" so that there was a reason the "Airline trail" was called the airline...

So...what are they?

Well...we tried to follow them...and couldn't tell if they went into the ground or where. The snow was too high to see where they went.;)

In fact, I have heard the maple sugar producers are having a hard time this year because of snow depth and damage/losing their lines.

Usually the gravity-fed collection tank is on a road, accessible to a motorized vehicle that hauls the tank (or its pumped contents) to the sugar house. The lines are under the snow.
