Best road from Marcy Dam to Mt Mansfield in Vermont

In two weeks I plan to hike Marcy and Mansfield the next day.

What is the best road to cross the Champlain lake in winter?

Take the Champlain Bridge at Crown Point in NY. The ferries do run in the winter, but the bridge is faster and, by the time you get off the mt and over there, they may have stopped for the night.
