Does anyone know why there is a ski patrol rescue sled hanging from a tree on the summit on Big Jay?

It's a very popular backcountry skiing destination, although technically outside the ski area, ski at your own risk, you will not be rescued, etc...

Exactly, lots and lots of skiers back there, many who gained access via the ski lifts. It's better to have the sled out there before you need it.
