Via the Firewarden's Trail.
Trail Conditions: 1-3 inches of fluffy new powder over still unfrozen ground. Muddy in spots but no ice to speak of.
Equipment: poles helpful particularly for crossing the Stratton Pond outlet stream. We brought light traction but did not use it. It might have been helpful, particularly in the bouldery section between the col and the Avery Peak summit.
Comments: spectacular day. A bit of everything weather wise - brief snow squalls in the AM and it looked like we might get shut out for views. Fortunately that was not the case. Summit temps in the 20s and gusty winds gave us our first taste of winter hiking conditions this season.
