Carrigain via Signal Ridge Trail
Date of Hike: 8/24/10
Trail Conditions: Rocks were a bit slick from the previous night’s rain, but the trail beyond junction with Carrigain Notch Trail was firm and in good shape. Muddy stretches of trail leading to Carrigain Notch junction, but that’s typical. Stream crossings were a breeze with plenty of steppingstones exposed.
Special Equipment Required: A shell to blunt the cool winds and prolong your stay on the observation tower.
Comments: Winds were stiff and chilly up top. I hit the ridge in late afternoon as dark clouds were rolling in, but I made it in time to enjoy some fine views. Had the entire summit/tower to myself as I surveyed the Pemi with my binoculars…..could clearly make out the concrete foundation on the summit of Garfield.
Met about a dozen people coming down as I was heading up.
