Trails: Church Pond Loop

Conditions: Extremely wet & swampy with dozens of blowdowns.

Special Equipment: A sense of humor

Comments: After 900 miles of redlining, this gets my vote as one of the top five poorly maintained trails in the WMG. After an easy ford of the river, the trail coincides with the Nanoomook (sp?) ski trail. After this junction things get rough! Every one of the scores of bog bridges on the west side of the loop has completely disintegrated. The only evidence remaining of the puncheons are the nine inch long spikes sticking out of the water and the vague form of water logged splinters between them. The east side of the loop includes many nasty blowdowns. I had planned to take an hour to complete the loop but in the end it took over two hours!
