Date of Hike: Saturday 2/22

Route: Bushwhack from behind the Sugarloaf GC clubhouse (go down the hill behind the golf clubhouse to a green pumphouse, and across the golf cart bridge, then up to the tee for Hole 11 "Precipice". Our snow shoe track follows a bearing of appx. 270-280 degrees through the woods, across one smaller stream crossing, and a lot of saplings, before popping out on the Caribou Valley Road (CVR) just before the 3 mile marker). Go left and down the CVR about 1.5 miles to the easy to miss AT junction on the right (no sign, but there should be an easy to spot snowshoe track for at least the next few days). We got to about 2800', just before another very small stream crossing, and before the Crocker Tentsite, and decided to turn around. We were breaking trail in deep fluff for just shy of a mile on the AT. A skier had been there a day or so before, but turned around at about 1/4 mile up the hill. It had taken us 4 plus hours just to get to this point, and there was no reasonable prospect of summiting and returning before dark, so we called it a day.

Required Equipment: You're kidding, right? Snow shoes were de rigeur.

Comments:Hats off to Spaderman (Steve), Mad Dog (Mark), and the Mighty Quinn (Mike) who did most of the work on this one. No summits today, but we live to climb another day....Hope to put up a more complete Trip Report with photos in the next few days, but wanted to make folks aware of the work we did, if they can take advantage and nail the Crockers this week.
