Trail Conditions: Large patches of dirt alternating with hard packed snow up to Marble head. Hard packed snow to Esther and Whiteface. Either crampons or snowshoes would work on the trails to Whiteface/Esther. Trail to Esther was easy to follow. Some minor blowdown. Icy on Whiteface summit, but virtually zero wind at 12:30pm.

Special Equipment Required: Crampons or snowshoes on the trails below timberline. Crampons essential on Whiteface summit. Perhaps an ice ax on the narrow section of trail below the stonewall skirting Memorial Highway.

Comments: Start at ASRC at 8am. Esther 10:30am. Whiteface at 12:30pm. Out at 3:00pm. Crossed 3 pairs of hikers and,as usual, they were all upbeat and enjoying the Adirondacks on a winter day.
