Set off in light rain up Gale r rd (oh forest service, how about opening up some of the roads now?). Little stream crossing no problem, trail muddy of course. The 1st river crossing called for boots off, crocs on and tight grip on poles. Water was a little frosty. Ditto for 2nd crossing. At big rock, around 3200' or so, put on snowshoes. Monorail was dicey- slightest deviation of even an inch off and it was hip deep in wet snow. Monorail also disintegrating over rocks.
Lots of fog but after reaching hut, had no trouble finding trail to summit. No views and uneventful return to hut. There, I abandoned my plan of heading to Guyot shelter via Twins for the night due to tedious conditions.
Descended with care and still could not avoid more postholing, ankle and knee twisting until reaching the big rock. Off with snowshoes and shortly, off with boots for water crossings. Feet real numb by 4th dip. Still, a fine day out and enjoyed the visit with the sun last hour or two.
