April 1 was a good day for an old fool to climb Cannon. Even better since NH hoists resident geezers to the View From The Top at a special rate.

The VFTT was unusual. The North Country was socked in with a cloud bank flat topped at 3,000', moving slowly south, pouring through Franconia Notch and evaporating before reaching Layfayette Campground. An occasional thermal boiled up a cloud castle that soon melted in the dry upper air.

Jay Peak-63 miles away near the Canadian Border, Burke and the ridge tops from Killington to Mansfield poked through the blanket, as did Starr King and Waumbeck in the Plinys. To the east, Adams peaked over Garfield. Skiing was a little mossy on Vista Way. Ice in ponds above 2,000' but it and the snowcover will get a lot thinner with 70 degrees expected this weekend.

My phonecampix are a little foggy too.
