I am joining my wife on a road trip from the upper Midwest to Florida in a week. I talked her into including a couple days in the Smokies. Any suggestions on great hikes from the Knoxville side of the park.

On this trip we will be looking at day trips and not back packing. Also any great places to stay would be helpful. Thanks-

Looks like they got some snow today in the mountains. Gaitinburg & Pigeon Forge should have outdoor retailers. Online check peak to peak wilderness links http://www.peaktopeak.net/tn.html

I'm planning on visiting the area in Summer so I'm focusing on the above 6000 peaks which may be quite snow covered right now.

How about Clingman's Dome from Newfoundland Gap along the AT. About 15 miles roundtrip, but less than 2000 feet elevation change. A good long day.

Thanks for advice

Thanks for the input. We head out tommorrow.. Ed B
