You are correct (& I was wrong in my now deleted post).

Most likely for Flags-on-the-48, Barbarossa and I will get there early and visit the mud puddle before heading over to South Hancock. Maybe we'll do some more interesting things as well.

FWIW, There are supposedly two ponds in this region of Hancock. According to Steve Smith, there is the one you can see from the look-out on South Hancock. And there is a larger one, right at the base of the mountain that is not viewable.

Here is a trail report (scroll down to John Ritz Writz's description in the Hancock-Carrigain Ridgeline section) by someone that mentions going to one of these ponds... I assume the larger, marshy one that is one some maps. /

Sorry to ressurect an old thread but that's what happens when you have a small brain.

as for the one day whack from hancocks to carrigain,via carrigain pond, i tried it solo in june year???i think 2 years ago and bailed at the col in between hancock,east and the captain. it was only when i had the fine company of frodo(his determination and drive) got us the whole way in november of the same year. it was 18 degrees snowing and windy. with out him that day,i wouldn't have even gone!!! frodo IS the man!!!! :D :eek:

this one is my favorite shot of the day, looking towards vose spur at the end of the day. i think it took us 11 hours to go from road to road!!! :D

Im a white mtn veteran although I do little bushwacking, anyway your very insightfull in relation to the whites, just thought Id let you know I enjoy alot of your post about remote places, you have me considering visiting some of these areas as a result, thanks.
