Date of Hike: Saturday, Oct 30 2010
Trail Conditions:
Hancock Notch Trail was wet and muddy in patches. Cedar Brook trail's water crossings were low water and fairly easy to rock hop. Hancock loop had 1" to 1.5" power at the peaks, muddy patches were frozen but the few bogs weren't.
Special Equipment Required:
The snow was fresh and crunchy on the ascent so used nothing. Micro-spikes and poles on the upper decent from S Hancock were useful.
Comments:
Almost 2" of snow on some spots of N Hancock ascent with the winds blowing it around. The col traverse to S Hancock was chilly and windy, and the slushy bogs required some navigation.
Saw 5 or so other hikers, I think everyone was enjoying the beautiful snow and the Gray-Jays were out begging for food.
