Injured N.H. Hiker Airlifted from Baldface Circle Trail

CONCORD, N.H. -- A 50-year-old New Hampshire man sustained a disabling injury while hiking with his dog on Baldface Circle Trail in North Chatham, N.H., on Wednesday afternoon (September 24, 2008). The injured hiker, Christopher Paquette of Groveton, N.H., was located between North Baldface Mountain and Bickell Ridge Trail when he called for help on his cell phone.

New Hampshire Fish and Game Department Conservation Officers coordinated rescue efforts for the injured hiker. At approximately 5:20 p.m., a National Guard Blackhawk Helicopter relayed two Conservation Officers to Paquette's location. Paquette was evacuated by the Blackhawk to Memorial Hospital in North Conway. The two officers walked Paquette's dog, a black lab mix, 4.5 miles out to the nearest trailhead on Route 113.

Agencies assisting in the rescue effort included N.H. Fish and Game, New Hampshire National Guard and the Appalachian Mountain Club.

No further information is available at this time.
